The Ultimate Challenge for Saxophone Player

John Coltrane's Giant Steps remains as one of the most difficult jazz pieces for saxophone.  This 1960 piece is still being studied in great details by many jazz artists and critics.  Coltrane's appregio style of improvisation is so fierce that it scares a lot of jazz musicians away.  Listen to the masterpiece played the golden quartet: John Coltrane (Saxophone), Tommy Flanagan (Piano), Paul Chambers (Bass), and Jimmy Cobb (Drums).  Note that Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb have played along with John already when they were all part of the Miles Davis' band.
