小泉将史(Cartier Santos Sweet Lady)

Playing a music instrument without physical contact is not something new (Theremin was invented long time ago).  However, this time light was the output making use of the programming software MAX/MSP.  When the sound source creates a noise or output, the fluorescent light shines.

40 Years Behind?

Recently pulled out Tangerine Dream's Electronic Meditation for a listen.  It has been already 40 years since it was first issued.  Although one would not consider Electronic Meditation as the greatest electronic music album, the music is filled with electronic bliss, analogue effects, and some interesting concepts.  A lot of things have moved on in the last 40 years, there is no argument about that.  However, have we moved on in terms of music listening tolerance?  Does this vintage 40 year-old music still sound like noise?  Have we really moved on, or are we still 40 years behind?

"What we hear is mostly noise.  When we ignore it, it disturbs us.  When we listen to it, we find it fascinating." -- John Cage

Coolest Guitarist

Years ago my music mentor recommended music from Norwegian guitarist Terje Rypdal to me.  Since then, I think he is one of the coolest guitarists ever.  His music creates a very cool, no, it is even cold ambience.  The band plays very tight and the guitar riff is just like it is from the above.

Need Remedy for Cold/Flu??

The perfect remedy for fighting the cold weather is to listen to some high energy and passionate music.

Recommended Remedy:

1) Mierda Hedionda -- Greenfly feat. Dionnie Williams (Soul Obsession, 2002 CD)
  • compiled by LTJ Bukem, the famous Drum & Bass DJ and producer.

      2) Street Man -- Malo (Latin Rock in the USA 1968-76, Soul Jazz Records LP)

      • Only hear about Santana?  Try Malo, they will blow you away.  Listen to the organ and the drums.
      • Chicano Movement that affected the rock and USA politics history

          3)  So Nice or Summer Samba -- Macros Valle (Samba 68', 1968 Verve LP)
          • Diana Krall just put out a cover version of this song in her latest album.  Think she sang pretty well?  Wait until you listen to the original by the composer himself.  This is real Bossa Nova.

            4) Safely in Your Arms -- Macros Valle (Samba 68', 1968 Verve LP)
            • Beautiful ballad song.  What more could you ask for =)?

Terumasa Hino (trumpet), Yuji Ohno (piano), Motohiko Hino (drums), Kunimitsu Inaba (bass)
